Project title: Development and production of prototypes of ultra-lightweight, safe road and bridge barriers made of high-strength steel with an innovative mounting system, including production technology.

The aim of the project is to develop and manufacture prototypes of ultra-lightweight, safe protective barriers made of high-strength steel, together with the technology for their production. A protective barrier that absorbs the energy of a vehicle impact is a device used to ensure road safety, designed to prevent vehicles from leaving the road in dangerous areas or crossing into oncoming traffic, as well as to prevent collisions with objects located near the road (e.g., trees, power poles, streetlights, etc.).

The outcome of the project will be:

•    Product innovation in the form of eight types of ultra-light road, bridge, and mobile barriers with a unique safety range in accordance with the PN-EN 1317 standard.
•    Process innovation in the form of a demonstration production line with innovative technology for manufacturing the above-mentioned ultra-lightweight protective barriers.

The results of the R&D work will be implemented in the Applicant's business activities through the introduction of a new technological process and the start of mass production.
Operational Program Smart Growth 2014-2020 – a document adopted by the Council of Ministers on January 8, 2014, constituting the national implementation of the European Union's cohesion policy in the field of innovation and research activities. The program is implemented in its entirety under the European Regional Development Fund.

Project title: Development of innovative technologies and materials for corrosion protection of longitudinal road barrier elements in a process using a deep tank for hot-dip galvanizing.

Agreement No. POIR.01.01.01-00-0727/19-00

Project objective: The project concerns the development of the world's first deep zinc bath galvanizing technology, enabling vertical galvanizing of steel elements up to 5 meters long and weighing up to 11 tons.

The outcome of the project will be:

•    The development and implementation of deep galvanizing technology will replace 2-3 traditional structures, while achieving significant savings in terms of environmental pollution emissions (in some cases even several times over) and a reduction in energy consumption per unit of product by several dozen percent. A very important modification is the galvanizing bath, developed by AGH scientists, which will contribute to a significant increase in the durability of the protective coating while reducing its thickness.
•    By combining state-of-the-art technology with modern passive road safety structures developed and perfected by the Beneficiary, we will contribute to the realization of the ZERO vision, which consists in reducing fatal accidents on the roads and reducing emissions into the environment, which is crucial for future generations.

Project title: Development and manufacture of a lightweight modular crash cushion using the latest materials and production technology.

Agreement No. POIR.01.01.01-00-0938/19-00

Project objective: The objective of the project is to develop and manufacture a completely new, highly innovative, lightweight modular crash cushion (also known as an energy-absorbing shield) using the latest materials and proprietary manufacturing technology. The crash cushion developed in the project will be the only one of its kind on the market. The project addresses the issue of ensuring the safety of road users. A WHO report indicates that road accidents are the eighth leading cause of death worldwide. Therefore, infrastructure measures play an important role in strategies and programs aimed at improving road safety.
The result of the project will be characterized by novel features on the Polish and foreign markets.

The outcome of the project will be:

•    Product innovation in the form of a lightweight modular crash cushion
•    Process innovation in the form of technology for manufacturing the above-mentioned airbags 

The results of the R&D work will be implemented in the Applicant's business activities through the introduction of a new technological process and the commencement of production.

3) Request for quotation No. INTERMETAL/POIR 1.1.1/04/11/2019 SUBJECT OF THE ORDER: Provision of R&D services, including tensile strength testing of samples of selected aluminum grades and compression testing of airbag absorber profiles.

4) Purchase of a single-user commercial license for software for computer simulations of rapidly changing nonlinear phenomena using the Finite Element Method (FEM) – LS-Dyna package (LS-PrePost, LS-Dyna Tools) or equivalent for 18 months.

5) Working module – a complete set of structural elements and all necessary components, static and FEM calculations confirming trouble-free operation, and all design and engineering work for mechanical parts.

Project title: Development of an innovative family of radial road terminals with increased energy absorption parameters for use at intersections and particularly dangerous roadside locations, together with production technology.

Agreement No. POIR.01.01.01-00-0115/20-00

Project objective: The objective of the project is to develop an innovative family of radial road terminals with increased energy absorption parameters, together with the technology for their production, enabling their implementation in business activities and contributing to the Applicant's competitiveness.

The solution developed as part of the project includes:

PRODUCT INNOVATION in the form of an innovative family of radial road terminals, with the following new features:
•    The level of energy dissipation achieved at a significantly higher impact speed of 100 km/h
•    A family of structures ranging from 45 to 135 degrees, with increments of 15 degrees, allowing for optimal selection of the type of structure to meet the actual needs and requirements of the end user.
•    Reversibility, i.e., the possibility of using a single design regardless of the direction of vehicle traffic, thereby reducing the number of different types of parts used to repair damaged components.
•    A feature that protects users of two-wheeled motor vehicles.
•    The function of the initial/final section of a road barrier, enabling the use of a terminal instead of the initial/final section (not always safe for passenger cars) while guaranteeing the retention of truck restraint parameters for the road barrier to which the terminal is attached.
 
PROCESS INNOVATION in the form of technology for manufacturing the above-mentioned road terminals, characterized by novel features in the following areas:

•    Increased efficiency and reduced production time for key road terminal components.
•    Obtaining 100% of parts with lower dimensional tolerance.

The results of the project will be characterized by novel features on the Polish and foreign markets.

Project title: Development of a new family of environmentally friendly protective road and bridge barriers with a containment level of up to H4b, together with proprietary production technology.

Agreement No. POIR.01.01.01-00-0105/21-00

Project objective: The objective of the project is to reduce the negative impact of road and bridge barriers on the environment during the product life cycle (20-25 years) by, among other things, introducing: reuse of dismantled barriers, polymer biomaterials, and NOx and CO binding biocoatings. At the same time, the requirements of EN1317 will be met. The new family of environmentally friendly barriers will significantly increase the innovativeness of the Applicant's activities and enable compliance with planned environmental legislation in EU countries.

The solution developed as part of the project will be a PRODUCT INNOVATION in the form of an environmentally friendly family of road and bridge barriers with a containment level of up to H4b and the following novel features on the Polish and foreign markets:
•    Reduction of pollutants emitted during the product life cycle through the introduction of bio-based components.
•    The function of the coating is to absorb and bind air pollutants.
•    Sound suppression function.
•    Achieving a better working width of the barrier (W parameters) by introducing a new method of connecting the post to the guide.
•    Reducing the forces acting on the bridge during impact by
specific design of the barrier post and its base.

In addition, the project includes PROCESS INNOVATION in the form of a proprietary technological measuring line with an autonomous transport system enabling automated, robotized, and eco-efficient segregation of recycled guides.
